The Cruise of the Schooner Catherine
Working on the Chronology of Sea Scouting in the United States prompted
me to explore of the history of Sea Scouting in the York-Adams Area Council
Squadron. This led to the discovery of a scrapbook of photos and details of a
Chesapeake Bay cruise undertaken 22-27 July 1946 by local Sea Scouts from
Ships 17 and 37. A narrative of this voyage has been assembled with
copies of original news clippings, post cards, and other memorabilia.
It is available in both Microsoft Word 2000 format and in Adobe
Acrobat PDF format. The Adobe version is a smaller file and will load
faster. Its well worth the wait for the file to load, as the photos
give an especially view of what Sea Scouting was really like just after
World War II.
