One of the secrets of a successful Bermuda Ocean Race (BOR)
is to properly prepare your boat. This is a time consuming task, and
often must be done at times when you'd rather be sailing. On a cold
early spring day in April, Boat Captain Drew and the Skipper went down to Kuan
Yin at her mooring on Rock Creek and put in a little quality time
"getting her ready."

StrongTrac system which will allow the sails to be raised or lowered with
almost no friction.

Drew disappears into the bowels of the boat to inspect the
clean-out port on the vessel's manual bilge pump.
Getting back out is sometimes much harder than getting in
was in the first place.
Drew goes fishing in the bilge to see what he can
find. Ugh! This is just a sample of the sort of junk that could
clog up the bilge pump when you need it most. Moral: keep a clean
bilge.
